Healthy Ever After is excited to offer another Easter Kids Cooking Camp. Kids will make 8 recipes and learn basic cooking skills while meeting new friends, working as a team, and having fun. The camp teaches important life skills, such as measuring ingredients, trying new foods and cleaning up! Our Kids Cooking Camps are for children ages 8yrs to 12yrs. They will be held in the professional kitchens at ATU (formerly GMIT) in Galway City.

The camps are held in a professional kitchen where each child gets a free recipe folder with all their camp recipes. All ingredients and cooking tools are provided. Children only need to bring their own apron (if they wish) and a snack and drink for break time. Each morning, they will make something sweet and something savory to take home or eat on-site.

Each day a Chef Of The Day Certificate will be given to the mini chef who shows kindness to others, who works as a team and who keeps their work station clean and tidy.

Then on the final day of the camp the children will all receive a certificate according to the amount of times they have attended the camps.

  • Level 1 - Junior Cook

  • Level 2 - Skilled Cook

Child Protection

.Our organisation believes that the best interests of children and young people attending our services are paramount. We believe that all children attending our service have the right to be protected, treated with respect, listened to and to have their views taken into consideration in all decisions affecting them. Our guiding principles are underpinned by Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children, Tusla’s Child Safeguarding: A Guide for Policy, Procedure and Practice, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and current legislation such as the Children First Act 2015, Child Care Act 1991, Protections for Persons Reporting Child Abuse Act 1998 and the National Vetting Bureau Act 2012.

Our guiding principles apply to all paid staff and students on work placement within our organisation. All staff and students must sign up to and abide by these guiding principles and our child safeguarding procedures.

Record keeping

Healthy Ever After Kids does not keep records of children attending Camps and deem it the responsibility of parents of the children to inform staff of anything we need to know in relation to their children.

Healthy Ever After Kids has an accident book where it will record any incidents and inform parents of any incident concerning a child on the day it happens.

The children attending Healthy Ever After Kids are in a safe and secure environment.

Ways in which the team at Healthy Ever After Kids ensure best practice in the workplace:

Any adult working in Healthy Ever After Kids will not be alone with an individual child for long periods of time.

During the summer/easter camps the children are escorted to the bathroom in groups at regular bathroom breaks.  However, if a child needs to use the bathroom outside of the bathroom breaks a member of staff will guide the child to the bathroom.

In this event, the staff member assisting the child will inform the second staff member that they will be assisting a child to the bathroom. The staff at Healthy Ever After Kids will respect the wishes of the child at all times during this interaction and may assist the child if necessary. It is at the discretion of the member of staff whether to assist or not depending on the appropriateness and whether or not they are comfortable to assist.

The doors to the kitchen during the camps can only be open by a key card holder. This ensures people cannot enter the premises uninvited while a camp is taking place. When a camp/class is over the children are escorted to a designated pick up area to allow for collection of children and Healthy Ever After Kids do not allow a child leave the building unless there is an adult present for them.  The parent must also sign out the child before leaving.

Procedure in case of a fire

At the onset of each camp/class Healthy Ever After Kids will go through the safety in the kitchen rules, such as not running in the kitchen, precautions while using the gas rings and cleaning up any spillages. They will also be told what to do in case of a fire in the kitchen.  There are fire extinguishers and a fire blanket on site, a working fire alarm system and clear access to exits. There are clear signs of where to exit in case of a fire.

The staff at Healthy Ever After Kids will assist all children to evacuate the building immediately. A staff member will remain in the kitchen and will be responsible for ensuring everyone gets out safely. The children will then be escorted out of the building to the meeting point at the front of the building. Parents will be notified.

One of the staff will alert the emergency services.

Procedure in case of a medical emergency

There is a first aid box on site, some of our staff have basic first aid training. Small injuries will be tended to by us (small cuts etc) and anything more serious, parent and if required, emergency services will be contacted.
All accidents/incidents will be recorded in our accident book.

Healthy Ever After Kids respects the needs, beliefs, religion and culture of children attending the school and will make every effort to facilitate children in these areas.
